The Phantom Unmasked by Cor104 The Phantom Unmasked by Cor104
What was Christine thinking at this point (of no return)? I've always found this moment fascinating, so much happens in so little time...The Phantom really confesses his love and Christine betrays him...and then the most dramatic finale EVER comences! I cry every time when I listen to the final lair scene...

ANYWAY...This was brought about by a disscusion at work about Gerard Butler vs. Michale Crawford. I'm on the Crawford side...haha HE IS THE PHANTOM! THIS IS THE PHANTOM...hideous...mad...yet somehow loveable...

More Phantom illustrations to come...or are there? haha

While Michael Crawford does an amazing job as the Phantom. :D But in this unmasking scene, I actually find Ramin Karimloo's reaction a lot more epic.

I mean think about it. That scream he let out depicts that important mask of his, which provided his only source of cloaking for his distorted face, has come off and now the whole audience can look at it. A face he never wanted to be known for...

Point of No Return is a brilliant scene, but I was angry at Christine for betraying the phantom...really good picture!

I've been wodering why christine pulled his mask off too (I've only seen the film, but did she think that would be the safest choice?
I hate to say it, but to refrence Austin Powers, he looks like he's been beaten with an ugly stick.

Woah! There's a lot going on in the scene and this piece too! The style is really cool too!
Their expressions are so great! just Wow!

And I am on the Gerard Butler side myself, but I grew up listening to MC. We wouldn't have Phantom if it weren't for him in the first place, he is pretty talented and set the standard for other phantoms.
(my parents actually have a music box of MC, just a random fact...)

Weird. I know he looks to be modeled on Crawford, but his pale skin and bald/thinning hair puts me in mind of a Chaney/Crawford mix. That's my ideal Phantom btw, Crawford's voice in Chaney's makeup.

Actually, now that I look back at this, he looks more gruesome now. It looks like his face is falling apart.

There's a video of that on Youtube. Hold on one second...

Found it. It's here: [link] It ain't perfect, several scenes from later or earlier parts of the movies are edited in, and the scene of the Phantom leading Christine down to his lair is repeated about 4 times, but the scenes in the movie are probably about 2 minutes in length, and it's a 6 minute clip. Still, it gives you the general gist of it.

Wow I love this! Yay Phantom! Agreed I prefer the stage version much better. Best phantom I've actually seen is Hugh Panaro (he's back on broadway!) But agree, Michael Crawford was a wonderful phantom (man knows how to act with his hands).

Thanks--I've actually never read or seen Phantom of the Opera--although my parents have. Also, I've never actually seen that family guy episode either--my boyfriend just keeps mentioning this clip--which makes me laugh.

Yeah, to be honest, while Gerard's singing is... well... acceptable, his "gross-half" looks more like a burn scar than a deformity. :hmm:

A classic Beauty and the Beast tale if you ask me. I need to see the silent film version along with the musical one. I take it one's more romantic and the other more horrific.
